Once again, it's been almost half a year since I posted a real journal. I go on deviantART every day, but I haven't felt very artistic at all lately. School and gaming are taking up almost all my time. This will be my last semester at the university, then it's off to join the work force.
Part of my research at school involves learning the programming language Maude. I haven't really decided yet how I feel about it. At the moment it has no practical applications; there are no libraries or community to speak of (although it is in Portage). But it does have some interesting ideas. The entirety of the language is built around pattern replacement. Everything is an operator, and certain patterns of operators can be mapped to other patterns of operators. This makes the language extremely flexible, but can also result in a complete mess.
I've also been messing a bit with Python, which, as Randall Munroe points out, can do anything. Not much, just enough to do my algorithms homework. It makes for nice pseudocode.
Usually I just put music on random, but lately I've been going through a "full album" phase. The other day I listened to Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends straight through for the first time (it came out in 2008). Right now I'm listening to Christina Courtin's debut album, which I would highly recommend. Also Does You Inspire You by Chairlift, from which "Bruises" was used in an iPod commercial and "Evident Utensil" has an awesome music video.
